Koala
Appearance: Thickset marsupial with thick, grey to brown fur, large ears and a large, flat nose.
Habitat: Eucalypt forests in Eastern Australia, from Adelaide to northern Queensland.
Diet: Koalas are fussy eaters and prefer specific types of gum leaves.

Interesting Koala Facts:
Koalas have two 'thumbs' on their front paws to help them grip when climbing and eating. The koala is one of the few mammals (apart from primates) with fingerprints. Each individual's prints are distinct and they are similar in appearance to human fingerprints.

The coin is part of a delightful series celebrating Australia’s land life, Land Series that includes:

  • Wombat
  • Bilby
  • Koala
  • Frilled Neck Lizard
  • Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby
  • Short-beacked Echidna

Design
The coloured reverse portrays a koala in his natural environment.
The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the Australian legal tender coin’s obverse.
