Struck elements of the coin’s reverse portray a Union soldier and a cannon. The design, which includes The Perth Mint’s "P" mintmark, also portrays a coloured representation of the final day’s battle at Gettysburg between Union and Confederacy troops.
The coin’s obverse depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2009 year date and the monetary denomination.
