The reverse of the first coin presents the image of Kupe entangled in the octopus, with details of the tattoos that adorned great Polynesian navigators. On top of the reverse, the inscriptions: “TEKAU TARA” and “TEN DOLLARS” – the face value. On the bottom the inscriptions: “KUPE – THE GREAT NAVIGATOR” – the name of the coin. The reverse of the second coin shows the great octopus under the waka, with the Matariki constellation above. On top of the reverse, the inscriptions: “TEKAU TARA” and “TEN DOLLARS” – the face value.
