Chinese Empire
In early ancient China, many people worked at farming, but it was not an easy life. They had extravagant temples and even built the Great wall of China over 2000 years ago. Many different emperors ruled ancient China, which you will read about in the dynasties of ancient China section. Did you know that they also invented many different things that are in use today like the compass, fireworks and even the harness for horses? There were certain distinct features which were solely reserved for buildings that were built for Chinese Emperors. These features were yellow roof tiles and dragons. Yellow colour has always been the imperial colour. However, Temple of Heaven is an exception. Its rooftop is of blue colour which symbolizes the sky. The second feature is that the Chinese dragons which symbolizes the Chinese nationality, was only used on imperial architecture.

The reverse of the coin features two of the most well-known Chinese structures. In the foreground the Forbidden City and behind it, the Temple of Heaven. In the background, The Great Wall of China, a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials. At the centre of the coin’s reverse, an Agata insert. On the bottom of the coin, the inscription: “China” - the name of the coin. The coin’s obverse features a magnificent view of the extraordinary Chinese architecture with a bronze statue of Confucio, a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history and the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In the top of the coin, the inscription: “2 DOLLARS” - the face value, while on the bottom of the coin, enclosed in beautiful decorations, the inscriptions: “Elizabeth II” - the name of the Queen, “Niue” - the issue country, “2016” - the issue date and “Ag999” - the Silver fineness. The Agata insert is visible also in the coin's obverse.
