Description

The reverse of the coin features the portrait of Medusa, often depicted as a monstrous creature with snakes for hair and the ability to turn people to stone with her gaze. She was once a beautiful mortal woman, but after being cursed by the goddess Athena, she was transformed into a hideous creature. In the myth of Perseus, the hero is tasked with retrieving Medusa's head as a quest and ultimately succeeds in defeating her by using a reflective shield to avoid looking directly at her. The obverse, features the Public Seal of Niue and the inscriptions: "TWO DOLLARS" – the face value, "2024" - the year of issue.
