Hello friends, welcome back to Power Coin!

Let’s play a game: what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Paris?

Tour Eiffel, esgargots, romantic date nights,… How many of you are thinking about the magnificient Tiffany Art coin honoring Notre Dame de Paris?

Tiffany Art

Tiffany Art series

Tiffany Art is the flagship series of CIT. The first Tiffany Art series began in 2004 and finished in 2019. It featured architectural art styles that became more elaborate and intricate as minting technology advanced over time. The series gets its name from the stained glass inserts that appear in each issue.

The collection is called "Tiffany Art" after Louis Comfort Tiffany, an Art Nouveau figure who made substantial contributions to glassmaking and decorative design.

In 2021 CIT debuted with a new Tiffany Art series, called "Metropolis Tiffany Art", which focuses on cities and their most notable buildings. "Notre Dame de Paris" is part of this new series.

The coin comes in a black elegant case, accompanied by the Certificate of Authenticity with a beautiful image of one of Notre Dame’s rose windows. The coin is kept safe in a capsule, which can be removed from the case with the help of a ribbon.

The coin is 65 mm in diameter and weighs 5 oz. It is incredible how many details there are on such a limited space!

Notre Dame de Paris – The Reverse

The reverse of the coin depicts a portion of Notre Dame Cathedral's Western Facade, a spectacular Gothic masterpiece built between the XII and XIII centuries.

If you compare the reverse of the coin to the cathedral, you will find that every detail, even the tiniest one, has been accurately replicated, thanks to Smartminting technology

Starting from the left, the reverse shows:

  • The Portal of the Virgin, with the coronation of the Virgin at the top. Below, Mary is on her death bed surrounded by Jesus, the 12 Aposles and two angels who are about to lift her to heaven;
  • Between two columns, St Denis;
  • The Portal of the Last Judgment, with the Tiffany Art glass insert. In the central doorway there are the statues of Jesus, Mary and a Crucifix. Below, St Michael is weighing the souls of the deads: the reedemed souls are on the left, the damned souls are taken by the Devil, who is on the right.
  • The statue of Synagogue. Through the image of a woman with her eyes covered by a serpent, this statue depicts the attitudes of Christians toward Jews at the time.

The Gallery of the Kings of France is depicted in the upper section of the reverse. During the French Revolution, the statues were destroyed, but they were rebuilt in the nineteenth century.

The Virgin's Balcony and a portion of the iconic West Rose Window can be seen above.

All of this is rendered in High Relief, and the coin has Black Proof grade.

Notre Dame de Paris – The Obverse

Let's go for a walk around the cathedral!

The obverse of the coin depicts the structure from an unusual viewpoint, allowing us to admire the two Western facade towers, the roof, the Southern facade with the wonderful rose windows, the exquisite spire, and the incredible apse architecture.

If this is not enough, we can also admire the representation of the Western facade in the stained glass insert, as well as the magnificent Relief, which is even higher than the one on the reverse side of the coin.

The Palau Coat of Arms appears on the right, and the year of issuance and series name are below the glass insert at the bottom.
