The reverse of the coin depicts a vivid image of Dr. Gachet. Every detail of the coin matches the actual painting, down to the profound expression on the doctor's face that Vincent had described as "sensitive" and "melancholy". His droopy eyes accentuated his tiredness, and seemed almost reflective of van Gogh's own melancholy. The obverse of the coin features one of Vincent's final letters to his brother, Theo. At the bottom right of the obverse, the Coat of Arms of Chad and the inscriptions: "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD" – the issuing country, "10000 FRANCS CFA" – the face value and "2021" – the year of issue. The 2 Oz Silver coin is struck in a new minting technique that combines 33.5 Oz of Copper in between two layers of Fine Silver, resulting in super ultra-High Relief.
