The reverse of the coin shows men, women and children travelling along the coin's edge to create a sense of circularmotion, which symbolizes a long, continuous journey. The stars in the night sky, including the Big Dipper seen on the coin's reverse, helped these freedom seekers find their way north. To keep the focus on those who risked it all to find freedom, the only inscription on the coin's reverse is "CANADA". The obverse of the coin features a repeating pattern of maple leaf and the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II" – the name of the Queen, "D·G·REGINA" – the Latin acronym, "2022" – the year of issue and "20 DOLLARS" – the face value.
