The reverse of the coin portrays a beautifully colored Swell Shark surrounded by corals. He belongs to the family of cat sharks, which are nocturnal animals and can reach a body length of up to one meter. The Swell Shark gained its name from its unique ability to inflate its stomach with water, causing the entire hull to swell. At the top, the inscriptions: "SCHWELLHAI" – the name of the coin and at the bottom "2023" – the year of issue. The obverse of the coin features sea creatures and all around, the inscriptions: "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH" – the issuing country and "3 EURO" – the face value.
