The reverse of the coin shows this curious sea creature: the Octopus. Octopuses have the amazing ability to change their color, pattern, and even texture to camouflage and avoid predators or to communicate with other octopuses. They have specialized cells in their skin called chromatophores, which contain pigment that can expand and contract to create different colors and patterns on their skin. The obverse of the coin features the Barbados Coat of Arms and the inscriptions: "BARBADOS" - the country of issue, "5 DOLLARS" - the face value and "2024" - the year of issue.
