Description
The reverse of the coin depicts the Gero Crucifix, a famous medieval sculpture depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is considered one of the oldest surviving monumental crucifixes in Western art. The sculpture is named after its creator, Bishop Gero, who commissioned the artwork in the 10th century for the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. The 2.88 m high oak cross dates from the Ottonian period at the end of the 10th century and is considered one of the first monumental sculptures of the Middle Ages. The obverse of the coin features the Effigy of King Charles III and the inscriptions: "CHARLES III" - the name of the King and the inscriptions: "REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN" - the country of issue, "1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER" – the weight and the fineness of the Silver, "2024" - the year of issue and "2000 FRANCS CFA" - the face value.
