More info

The ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) is a wild cat native to the southwestern United States, Mexico, Central and South America. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List as the population is estimated to comprise more than 40,000 mature individuals and is considered stable. Its fur was once regarded as particularly valuable, but legal trade of its fur ceased decades ago. In the United States, it inhabits southern Texas and southern Arizona.

The reverse of the coin artistically combines the coloured Ocelot amongst a detailed engraving of its native forest habitat. On top of the reverse, the inscription: “OCELOT - OCELOTE” – the name of the coin. On the bottom, the inscriptions: “100 CÓRDOBAS” – the face value and “1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER” – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver. The obverse of the coin depicts the Coat of Arms of Nicaragua and the inscriptions: “REPÚBLICA DE NICARAGUA” – the issuing country, “AMÉRICA CENTRAL” and “2018” – the year of issue.
