The third release in this innovative "Treasures of Australia" coin program from the Perth Mint sees the inclusion of rough diamonds in a transparent pocket set within the coin itself. The diamonds issue carries on from the 2008 Opals coin and the 2007 Sapphires release, both of which proved to be extremely popular amongst collectors of unique and captivating numismatic products. This release is sure to continue the popular trend as rough diamonds are sought-after in their own right, demand will clearly be stepped up by including these precious stones within a 1oz Silver coin struck to proof standards.
The reverse design of these coins carries a stylized depiction of the barren landscape of Australia where some of the world's most rare and precious gemstones are found. The design features around the locket-style pocket that houses 1 carat of rough diamonds and below that is the inscription "Treasures of Australia".
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
This beautifully unique release is housed within an official presentation case with a jarrah timber lid, set inside a brightly coloured outer box along with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
