More info

Pig
The Pig (豬) is the twelfth and the last sign of the Earthly Branches. In the continuous Sexagenary cycle, every twelfth year corresponds to Hai, and is commonly called “the Year of the Pig” (豬). There are five types of Pigs, named after the Chinese elements. In order, they are: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth. In the Japanese zodiac and Tibetan zodiac, the Pig is replaced by the boar which is technically a pig. In the Dai zodiac, the Pig is replaced by the elephant. In the Gurung zodiac, the Pig is replaced by the deer, no close relation to a pig.

Design

The reverse of the coin depicts a colour representation of a piglet with gifts in the background. On the right of the reverse, the inscriptions: “豬” – Pig in Chinese character, “YEAR OF THE PIG”, “2019” – the year of issue and “1/2oz 9999 SILVER” – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “QUEEN ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen, “TUVALU” – the issuing country and “50 CENTS” – the face value.
