Born 200 years ago in Hamburg, Germany, Felix Mendelssohn created such masterpieces as Fingal's Cave, the Scottish Symphony, the Italian Symphony and the Wedding March from the incidental music for A Midsummer Night's Dream before his career was cut tragically short at the age of just 38. His image on the coin’s reverse is accompanied by a large treble clef, music notes and the inscription ‘Felix Mendelssohn 1809 – 1847’. The coin’s reverse also incorporates The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark. Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coin bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
