Who has not yet enthusiastically watched a butterfly hover over a meadow and dance from bloom to bloom? Besides its elegance and colour, this insects metamorphose fascinates us particularly. From an ugly caterpillar, who is often fought against as a ravenous pest, a complete new incredibly beautiful being peels out overnight and overwhelms humans downright with its positive features: light, delicate, natural, innocent, and beyond doubt gorgeous.
The Pacific Island World is incredibly abundant with exceptionally colourful butterfly species.
The Republic of Palau has immortalised three of them with a new coin issue:

  • The orange Hebomoia leucippe who belongs to the family of Pieridae
  • the blue dazzling Papilio pericles who belongs to the family of Swallowtail butterflies (Papilionidae)
  • the black and green Graphium agamemnon who is also called Tailed Jay. This butterfly belongs to the family of Papilionidae as well and is identifiable by its characteristic hind wing tail.

The special prism technique emphasises the butterflies colours and patterns.

Silver Proof coin, finely decorated by a fabulous prismatic butterfly.
