THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT
Chinese Lunar-Zodiac coins are very popular in China and throughout the world. According to the Chinese Lunar-Zodiac, the Year 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit--which begins on February 3, 2011 and ends on January 22, 2012. The Rabbit is considered a lucky sign. Rabbits are private individuals and a bit introverted. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are friendly individuals who enjoy the company of a group of good friends. They are good teachers, counselors and communicators, and make great painters or musicians due to their sense of beauty and their love of creativity. They love hunting for antiques, arts and crafts and will tend to make sound investments in these types of things.

THE DESIGN
The 2011 issue features a gentle Rabbit alongside plum blossoms with alluring colours. The plum blossoms being one of the most beloved flowers in China, have been depicted in Chinese art and poetry for centuries. Plum blossoms bloom most vibrantly amidst the winter snow after most other plants have shed their leaves, and before other flowers appear. They are thus seen as an example of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. Dom Pedro V Theatre was built in 1860 by local Portuguese to commemorate their reigning king, Peter V. In 1873, the main façade of the building was renovated adopting a more neo-classical touch, including pilasters and a pediment on the main façade.
The theatre was left unused for almost twenty years because of termite problems but resumed operations after extensive restoration work carried out in 1993.
Dom Pedro V Theatre, located on St. Augustine’s Square in Macau is one of the first western-style theatres in China. The style is neo-classical in essence. The theatre is an important landmark in the region and remains a venue for important public events and celebrations today.
