POPE JOHN PAUL II
The bulletin Totus Tuus which records the process of the cause for beatification beatification of Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus PP. II, Italian: Giovanni Paolo II, Polish: Jan Paweł II) born Karol Józef Wojtyła has published an account of a miracle attributed to his intercession (a prayer in which a request is made on behalf of another person). A French nun, diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2001, has claimed that her symptoms vanished after she and members of her congregation participated in a prayer chain begging for the late pope's intercession in her cure.

Pope John Paul II could be beatified on April 2, 2010, exactly five years after his death, according to a report in the Polish newspaper Dziennik, which claims the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints has already made the decision.

Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow said the beatification process of Pope John Paul II was about to be concluded and that Benedict XVI himself wanted to close the process “as soon as possible” because that “is what the world is asking for.”

"Santo Subito!" In speaking choirs and on banners umpteen believers already demanded the quick sanctification for the freshly deceased Pope John Paul II during his funeral service in April 2005. Compared to early church history where straightforward sanctifications were performed due to acclamation of the public, the canonisation is a long procedure with strict criteria today.

As from the formal investigation, beyond the careful verification of the worthiness and proof of a miracle, up to the point of the official farewell and sanctification through the Pope, it often takes several years. Furthermore the church law first requires a beatification, which can normally only be initiated five years after death. At least here the charismatic Pope from Poland already provided an exception: Only a few weeks after his death, his successor, Pope Benedict XVI, initiated the procedure for his beatification.

The beatification process of John Paul II began on June 28, 2005, two months after the death of the Pontiff thanks to a dispensation granted by Pope Benedict. The dispensation waived the normal five-year waiting period after a person dies that the Church requires before a cause for canonization can be opened.
