Official Coin Edition 2010, it celebrates the Ferrari GTO of the famous Italian Racing Team. Ferrari is a myth for all motorcar enthusiasts. The abbreviation GTO stands for “Gran Turismo Omologato“, and means that the road-going model of a sports car also has the homologation for racing series.

FERRARI 250 GTO
In its development and refinement of the long-running 250 series, Ferrari saved the best for last with the immortal Ferrari 250 GTO.
All told, just 39 examples of this voluptuous coupe were produced. All were built to race, but were theoretically usable on the street by virtue of sports-racing rules that required road versions of competition cars. That regulation, in fact, gave rise to the car’s name: gran turismo omologato -- a GT homologated, or sanctioned, for racing.
And race it did, propelling Ferrari to the Constructors International Grand Touring Championship in 1962, 1963, and 1964

FERRARI 599 GTO
The six litre engine displacement and the concentrated power of 670 horsepower shoots this new Ferrari, in the true sense of the word, from naught to one hundred km/h in only 3.35 seconds. Only when the red Italian reaches a speed of 335 km/h it is at its peak. Therefore it is one of the fastest ever built Ferrari models. Here it is obvious which major role the legendary seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher had in the development.
Alone the price and the engine power of this racer takes ones breath away let alone having the chance to posses and to drive one of these splendid specimens which are limited to 599 exemplar.
In 2010 the myth Ferrari GTO lives on!

THE FERRARI'S LEGEND
In the centre and as from the beginning the name Enzo Ferrari stands for the Red Legend. He was born on February 18, 1898 in Modena (Italy). In 1929 he founded his own race team with Scuderia Ferrari. At that time he was a company driver for Alfa Romeo.
After the Second World War the popular racing driver started to manufacture his own cars in Maranello. With much talent and foresight he led Ferrari to numerous victories and made it a renowned manufacturing company for racing cars. Enzo Ferrari died in 1988 at the age of 90 years; however the Ferrari legend lives on.
Today the name Ferrari, with its 15 Drivers- and 15 Constructor World Championships, stands for the most successful Formula 1 team of all times. And also in the current season the red racer is a factor front and centre with its two drivers Felipe Massa und Kimi Räikkönen.

The Ferrari 250 GTO, whose image is on the top of the coin, was built in the years 1962 until 1964. Several series were built, however only 39 were produced. Today such an exemplar is traded for a current value of at least 14 million Euros. The latest model of the GTO series is the 599, depicted on the bottom part of the coin. For this model Ferrari used the traditional V12-motor. The world premiere of the 599 GTO took place at the end of April 2010. The coin is enriched with an original Ferrari insert made with cloisonné technique and framed with 24Kt Gold.
