The Webb Ellis Cup is Rugby’s most sought-after prize. Named after William Webb Ellis, the man credited with creating the game of Rugby, the Cup was discovered in the vaults of the Royal Jeweller Garrad in London. Made in 1906, the design is based on a cup originally created in 1740 by Paul de Lamerie.
The RWC 2011 Webb Ellis Cup Coin is beautifully presented in a laser-engraved wooden case, lined with velvet to keep the precious collectable safe. Each case is individually numbered and comes with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity. The one-ounce pure silver proof coin showcases the competition’s prize at its centre, with the Webb Ellis Cup shining through in special high-relief 24-carat gold gilding, it is also decorated with RWC 2011 Event Mark. In top edge the legend "THE WORLD IN UNION" while in the bottom "ONE DOLLAR".
On the obverse the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.
