The coin celebrates the Native American circle of life with this masterpiece of pure silver selectively plated in pink and yellow gold. Based on a hand carved, red cedar shield originally created by Canadian artist Jody Broomfield of the Squamish Nation, Coast Salish people,  is a visual representation of the Native American appreciation of the circle of life, by the positioning of the two salmon.

The Tyee Salmon
No other fish embodies the history of North America’s First Nations people like the salmon. Since time immemorial, it has been an essential food source for the Northwest Coast people. It shaped their lives; a few weeks of intense work during the salmon run usually produced enough stores to meet their needs and enjoy their leisure time.
