Developing out of the Amateur Swimming Union of Australia, founded in 1909, and Australian Swimming Inc, formed in 1984, Swimming Australia has overseen Australia’s pioneering role in the sport and a cavalcade of great swimming champions.

Under its auspices, Australia played a pioneering role in the sport of swimming and has gone on to produce a cavalcade of great champions and Olympic gold medallists. The coin’s reverse depicts Swimming Australia’s official ‘100 years of excellence’ logo and a freestyle swimmer. The water, including splashes cleverly composed of silhouetted swimming figures, is portrayed in colour. Also incorporated in the design is The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
