Bialowieski National Park
Białowieża National Park is situated in the north-eastern part of Poland. The reserve in Białowieża Forest existed since 1921 and became a National Park in 1932. It occupies an area of 10 517.27 ha. The park includes three administrative units: Protective Zone of Orłówko, Protective Zone of Hwoźno and Bison Husbandry Centre (with three husbandry reserves and Bison Show Reserve). The park retained the last natural forest in the lowlands of Europe, of an original character, which stretched to the deciduous and mixed forests zone centuries ago. Among others, In the Park there are 809 vascular plant species, more than three thousand spore-bearing plants and fungi species, almost 200 species of mosses and 283 species of lichens. More than 8 thousand species of invertebrates were found, approx. 120 species of breeding birds and 52 species of mammals. Among the birds there are, for example: Eurasian pygmy-owl, three-toed woodpecker and white-backed woodpecker; beetles - black fir sawyer beetle, hermit beetle, pytho kolwensis; butterflies - tau emperor, moorland clouded yellow.

The Park's symbol is the bison - the largest land mammal in Europe. The process of its restitution, i.e. restoring it to nature, has also begun here. Currently, the largest population of bison in the world lives in Białowieża Forest. In its Polish part it consists of approximately 430 individuals.

Białowieża National Park is the only Polish natural object declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. It also constitutes the most important central zone of Białowieża Biosphere Reserve.
