The Shroud of Turin is a 4.36 m long and 1.10 m wide linen cloth bearing the replica of a male. It is worshiped as Jesus Christ’s burial shroud and is considered to be the Catholic Church’s most significant icon (piece of art). Researchers have had very controversial discussions about the shroud and its originality for decades which has led to the so-called Sindonology, an own area of expertise.

In 1357 the shroud was presented to the public for the first time in the South of France. An alternating owner’s history ensued until in 1578 it was displayed in the newly built Turin Cathedral by the ownership House of Savoy, once again. After the death of Italians last King, Umberto II, it was passed on to the Holy See in Rome in 1983.

In the Holy Year 2000 Jesus Christ’s Shroud was exhibited. By order of Pope Benedict XVI the shroud is once again open to public view in 2010 and in turn one hundred thousand pilgrims visited the mysterious symbol. The next exhibition is scheduled for the year 2025. Until then the illustration of Jesus Christ can be seen on this gorgeous silver coin in a special minted achromatic hologram.
