Snowy Owl
The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) is a large owl of the typical owl family Strigidae.
The Snowy Owl is the official bird of the Canadian province of Quebec. It is also widely sought after by birdwatchers and nature-enthusiasts alike.
This yellow-eyed, black-beaked white bird is easily recognizable.
The Snowy Owl is typically found in the northern circumpolar region, where it makes its summer home north of latitude 60º north. They nest in the Arctic tundra of the northernmost stretches of Alaska, Canada, and Eurasia.
Though Snowy Owls have few predators, the adults are very watchful and are equipped to defend against any kind of threat towards them or their offspring.

The reverse design by Canadian artist Arnold Nogy features a close-up portrait of the snowy owl’s facial features, its bright yellow and black enamel gives added depth to the owl’s eyes, and contrasts the softly frosted feathers of its face. Exceptional vision is what enables the snowy owl to be such a formidable hunter. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
