In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Dragon - 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 and 2012 - are regarded as confident, enterprising, independent, self assured, brave and passionate.

Chinese Lunar-Zodiac coins are very popular in China and throughout the world. According to the Chinese Lunar-Zodiac, the Year 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit--which begins on February 3, 2011 and ends on January 22, 2012. The Rabbit is considered a lucky sign. Rabbits are private individuals and a bit introverted. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are friendly individuals who enjoy the company of a group of good friends. They are good teachers, counselors and communicators, and make great painters or musicians due to their sense of beauty and their love of creativity. They love hunting for antiques, arts and crafts and will tend to make sound investments in these types of things.

The reverse of each coin depicts a dragon with a representation of a 'pearl of wisdom'. The Chinese character for 'dragon' and the inscription 'Year of the Dragon' also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional 'P' mintmark. The set includes nine coloured coins on which the dragon is coloured in red, blue, brown, purple, silver, white, yellow, black or gold. A traditional bullion finish silver dragon completes this remarkable set. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2012 year-date are shown on each coin’s obverse.
