NEFERTITI Nofretete Queen History of Egypt Coin 1$ Cook Islands 2013

The coin reverse depics the Nefertiti bust that has been discovered by the German Egyptologist Ludwig Borchardt during excavations in the studio of the sculptor Thutmosis on December 6th, 1912 in Armarna. The Berlin cotton merchant James Simon financed the excavation. In January 1913, with the approval of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquitiy, the bust was brought to Germany. Today it is the main attraction of the Egyptian Museum in Berlin. So far, in comparison to other portraits or relief representations of Queen Nefertiti, the bust is the only object in which the left eye is missing. The mask is coloured as the original one and it is decorated by pad-printing technique. Issued as Tokelau Islands legal tender, the coin's obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
